Are the Washington Wizards a Serious Threat to the Miami Heat?

The Washington Wizards won their first round series against the Chicago Bulls by a score of 4-1. They were the underdogs as they were only picked by one ESPN analyst to win the series. They proved that they are a serious threat in the Eastern Conference, and they have a real shot at taking out the defending champs.

The Wizards are built around their dynamic young point guard John Wall and their twin towers down low in Marcin Gortat and Nene. The three weakest positions on the Heat roster are point guard, center and power forward. Norris Cole and Mario Chalmers are both decent defenders, so they have the potential to slow down John Wall. The bigger issue will be containing Nene on the defensive end and stopping Gortat from getting rebound after rebound.

Washington plays a lot of sets in which they swing the ball over to Nene's side and let him go to work. Nene went up against Joakim Noah in round one, and he still dominated. He established himself as an elite mid-range threat, but he is also great at backing down his defender. The Heat don't really have a great answer to this. They can try to put Haslem on him, but I don't see how he can do much.

Another big advantage for the Wizards is their second round match up. They lucked out with their draw. They are going to face an 8th seed in the Atlanta Hawks or a mentally checked-out Indiana Pacers team. They are going to be less fatigued and going to build confidence in a young team.

The Washington Wizards are extremely dangerous, and they have a shot at an NBA Finals birth.
